Helping people and pets stay together,
through veterinary care for pets of people in poverty

Information for clients: Clinic guidelines

Location:
Monthly clinics at 2700 NW Front Ave, Building J (red brick building set back from street with parking lot in front. Look for PAW Team banner. Building says "Sulzer" on front. Blue building next door also is 2700, it is Quantum Recycling and not PAW Team.)

Directions:
One block north of NW Nicolai, and 1/2 mile from police horse stables.
Driving - from the East: take 30W and exit at NW Nicolai, turn Right at first light, then turn Left at first stop sign. Go over railroad tracks, and turn Left at light onto Front Ave. Clinic is approximately 1 block north on the right side.

There is no direct Trimet service on weekends, commuting hours only for #16 bus. Closest bus lines on weekends are #15 and #17. Check the
trimet website for details.

Parking/waiting area:
Street parking only during clinics, as we have to use the parking lot for waiting areas during clinics. We will set up canopies and tarps to provide shelter during clinics, but please dress appropriately for the weather.

No smoking in building or inside of gate.

You may want to bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on. There are no local businessess nearby for food, so bring what you need. We will provide coffee/tea and water.

Hours:
We begin sign-in and handing out tickets at
8:00 am, with the last ticket handed out at 2 pm. Pets will be seen between 10 am -3 pm. You will be given a ticket number and a general time-frame for when we expect the vets will be ready to see you and your pets. If you miss your time-slot, you will have to start over and go to the end of the line, so please try to stay nearby. Please note: No cutting in line or saving places in line allowed, other than for short bathroom breaks. Please help us provide services to those pets who need it most. If your pet was seen recently and does not have an urgent need, you will be asked to wait until another clinic. Thank you for understanding!

First come-first served. Line forms along fence to the north. We do NOT take phone or email appointments, clinics are walk-in only, and we will see as many patients as time allows.

Number of pets:
We can only allow two pets per client on each rotation through the line. If you have more than two, you will need to sign up again at the end of the line.

Qualifying for services:
We restrict our services to people on a government assistance program or experiencing some form of homelessness, in order to provide help to those who are most in need. Please see the “
Who we help” page to find out whether you qualify. You must bring proof of qualifications to the clinic or you will not be seen.

Spaying or neutering:
PAW Team has partnered with Multnomah County Animal Services and with the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP) to offer free/low-cost spay or neuter surgeries for the pets of our clients.
** Please note: PAW Team works to reduce pet overpopulation and promote responsible pet ownership. Therefore we will not provide treatment for any pet that is intended to be used for breeding. We will not provide services unless a pet is already spayed/neutered or signed up for our free spay/neuter program. If you do not show up for your pet’s scheduled surgery date, your file will be flagged and we will no longer provide services for your pets.**

Pet food and supplies:
We have dog and cat food and pet supplies available for distribution at our clinics, but you can also obtain high-quality pet food from Pongo Fund, at 910 NE MLK on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Food is distributed at The Pongo Fund from 12 - 2 pm for those who are truly in need. The Pongo Fund provides entry numbers the morning of each event beginning at 10am, with the final ticket given out at 1:30pm, so in order to receive food, you must be in line no later than 1:30pm. Please do not bring your pet to The Pongo Fund, as they do not provide vet care. Full details and requirements are available at 503-939-7555.

Cost:
Services are provided for free. However, we would be grateful for any amount you can afford to donate, as that helps us continue to offer services. Thank you for your generosity in helping others!
