President: Barbara Demanicor, CVT (Carlton Veterinary Hospital, Outside In staff)
Barbara graduated from the Portland Community College Veterinary Technician program in 1990. She has worked at Carlton Veterinary Hospital for 12 years. In 1996 she began volunteering at Outside In, a social service agency in downtown Portland, working in the on-street peer outreach program for homeless youth. During this time Barbara found many pets of homeless youth in need of health care. With assistance from the doctors at Carlton Veterinary Hospital, Barbara began sponsoring several small animal health clinics at Outside In. Barbara brings to Portland Animal Welfare Team many years of experience working with homeless people and their animals in need.
Executive Director: Dr. Wendy Kohn, DVM (President, Kwamba Productions)
Dr. Kohn is President of Kwamba Productions, an educational media development company founded in 1995. She has produced and directed a number of compelling videos for the educational market, including "Faces of Abnormal Psychology" and "A Question of Freedom," a documentary on African elephant conservation and domestication. She is currently co-producing a documentary on a revolutionary homeless village "From Doorways to Dignity." In addition to filmmaking, Wendy has developed and produced interactive Web and CD-ROM activities to improve course pedagogy and she is an educational technology consultant for developing countries. Dr. Kohn is an adjunct professor at several universities and she had conducted research and led educational safaris in Africa. Dr. Kohn continues to do veterinary relief work when time permits.
